The Water's Edge Covid-19 Precautions
UPDATED MAY 14, 2020:
REOPENING OF OUTDOOR DINING MAY 15
POOL OPEN ON LIMITED BASIS TO LAP SWIMMERS MAY 23
We are pleased to announce that our club restaurant will reopen to outdoor diners only on Friday, May 15, under the Virginia Governor’s “Safer At Home: Phase One” mandates. We will be adhering to the governor’s mandatory requirements, as outlined below:
Lunch: Weather permitting, Tuesday through Sunday, we will be open to outdoor diners for lunch. We have 9 tables seating 4 members each. We may be able to rearrange, if necessary, to accommodate a maximum of 6 members per table. Reservations are recommended in order to help us adhere to the state guidelines. Tables will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for those who have not made reservations. The last seating for lunch will be at 3 p.m.
Dinner: Weather permitting, Tuesday through Saturday, we will be open to outdoor diners for dinner for two seating times: 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. We have 9 tables seating 4 members each. We may be able to rearrange, if necessary, to accommodate a maximum of 6 members per table. Reservations are mandatory in order for us to adhere to the state guidelines.
CURBSIDE PICKUP hours are still in effect:
Tuesday through Saturday: Lunch menu from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dinner menu from 4 to 7 p.m.
Sunday: Lunch menu from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
As a reminder, to-go orders will apply toward monthly minimums until further notice.
Reopening protocols recommend that restaurants have separate entrances and exits. Under this guidance, we ask our members to enter through the front of the clubhouse. When leaving our patios, please utilize the outside exit. In case of inclement weather, we are not permitted to accept indoor seatings at this time. If someone in your group has physical limitations regarding stairs, please let us know when making your reservation.
We will thoroughly sanitize tables during each table turnover, and we will sanitize frequently contacted surfaces hourly. All waitstaff will wear masks to protect themselves and our patrons. Outdoor seating will be restricted to outdoor diners only. We will utilize plastic or disposable beverage cups and individually portioned condiments in order to remain non-contact service.
We are moving forward with our regular opening date of Saturday, May 23, on Memorial Day weekend. Pool hours will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Currently, Governor Northam’s Executive Order #61 states, “Outdoor swimming pools may be open for lap swimming only and must be limited to one person per lane.” The Water's Edge pool has 5 lanes, so we can only allow 5 lap swimmers in the pool area at a time. Towels cannot be provided; please bring your own towel. We are hoping that mandates will change before we reach this date.
The exercise facility is unable to reopen at this time under the governor’s order.
We will update our policies as soon as we have new guidance from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Please bear with us as we get new information and roll out new operating procedures during this time of continuous change.

UPDATED MARCH 31, 2020:
We’d like to thank our members for your gracious support of the Club while we make our best effort at serving you during this unprecedented time. If you have been away for the winter and are returning from another area of the country, especially one that has been heavily impacted by Covid-19, we must strongly advise that you self-monitor and avoid contact with others for two weeks as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. Please know that we are grateful for your membership and that we respect your place in our community, and that our main priority is doing our part to keep everyone in our community safe and healthy.
Effective April 1, the doors to the Main Office will be closed to the public, as we have many staff members who are teleworking. A dropbox is available at the door for member payments, and you can still make appointments with Member Services Director Ruth Rice by calling 540-721-5288, extension 111, or emailing email@example.com.
A stay-at-home order issued Monday, March 30, 2020, by Governor Ralph Northam states that people should only leave their homes to obtain food, supplies or medical care, or for exercise. During Northam’s news conference, a reporter asked him if golf is considered exercise. His answer was yes.
Golf allows physical activity with the added bonus – in these strange times of social distancing – of permitting ample space between players.
Under this guidance, The Water’s Edge Country Club golf course will remain open to members as much as possible to enable you to get outside in nature, de-stress, and enjoy the game of golf. Following are the details of our current operations as the Club, as allowed by the government of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Dining is only available to-go, for curbside pickup, and to golfers on the course. We are now open on Tuesdays until 7 p.m. As a reminder, to-go orders will apply toward monthly minimums until further notice.
Hours for to-go orders will be the following until further notice:
Tuesday - Saturday: 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The Golf Range and Course remain open until further notice, adhering to the requirements of social distancing.
Hours: Tuesday - Sunday 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Carts hold a maximum of two riders. We have relaxed the rule requiring folks to double up in carts, so you can request one person per cart. Carts are disinfected after each use. Golfers are naturally spaced apart as you work your way down the course.
We ask that golfers throw away your scorecards and pencils after your round. We have removed all bunker rakes, ball washers, water coolers, divot repair boxes and trash cans, so you should be able to play a round of golf without touching anything besides your clubs and cart.
Our Golf staff is staging carts at a safe distance apart and is disinfecting carts after every use. Carts will be available to single riders, and couples may share a cart. The requirement to use carts before 2 p.m. is waived until further notice, and the walking trail fee is also waived until further notice.
We encourage you to call ahead for tee times to help us plan for each day.
The fitness center is closed until further notice effective March 24, 2020.
The Equestrian Center remains open daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The courts remain open for use, with check-in as usual at the Pro Shop. Please keep a respectful distance of other players.
Thank you for your support and understanding of our policies. Please do not go out unnecessarily, but know that our course is here for your physical health and mental well-being. Stay aware of your surroundings and actions to keep yourself safe when you need to venture out.
